Challenge

Develop a system which allows consumers and partners to take part in RECUPs vision of reducing waste in their day to day life.

Approach

Continuously deliver more value for the users over time by working with an agile SCRUM framework.

Including actual customers and partners of RECUP in the process to understand their needs and quickly test ideas.

Gathering feedback for delivered features to iterate and improve them constantly.

Results

By listening to users we were able to build an ecosystem which constantly evolves and connect people with technology that actual helps them to use the RECUP services digitally whether its delivery, searching for partners or interacting with the community.

Project App for all users

2020-Today

Bringing the iOS only app to Android users

With the already existing RECUP App users where able to display all available RECUP Partners as Pins on a map to find the nearest location to return their used RECUP and REBOWLs.

Since the app was only available on the Apple App Store a lot of users where not able to to participate.

We rebuild the app and used cross-platform technology to bring all features to the Android platform and their users.

To be able to handle thousands of partner locations we drastically increased the performance by clustering and added a lot of neat and intuitive features to support users on their journey.

Additionally we were involved to handle data in the background and manage data exchange with other companies and organisations.

One QR-Code for seamless deposit:
The digital deposit system prototype

To be able to pay cashless and to cope with the new requirements due to the COVID pandemic we envisioned, created and field tested a new digital deposit system.

Until this point in time the deposit for RECUP products was exchanged in cash-only. In collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group Digital Ventures (BCG DV) we designed a new service to enable consumers and partners to exchange the deposit digitally and contactless.

We therefore spoke with many experts and key users, conducted a multitude of user tests and field-tested several solutions.

We then built the digital infrastructure to be able to launch the extended ecosystem.

Food delivery: Take the digital deposit to the next level

Reducing waste even further RECUP partnered up with Lieferando to bring their reusable packaging to the food delivery sector.

To be able to handle RECUPs deposit system not only digital, but also remotely, we developed a token-based system to connect consumers with delivery partners to exchange the deposit directly over their apps.

After adding a payment method, consumers create their single-use tokens, add them to their delivery notes and the delivery partner will add the correct deposit based on the size of the delivery.
